Casa para três gerações by Uptic Studios

The goal of the Coeur D’Alene Cabin was to create a modern cabin for a couple, their kids, and their grandkids. Located on Coeur D’Alene Lake in North Idaho, we considered the combined occupancy of three generations, providing separate spaces for privacy in addition to common rooms that bring everyone together comfortably.
One of the driving forces behind the design was the site’s existing conditions. The property is steep and narrow with a natural spring that runs beneath the hillside. We realized you could shift the dirt anywhere and water would emerge. This resulted in the dual form approach, bridging the gap where the underground stream flows naturally.
The Cabin is centered on the notion of a large close-knit family, and each member was considered in the design. We strove to find commonalities between family members to develop an aesthetic that addressed everyone’s needs and visions.
The view from the site was an important aspect to the client and integral to the design. To maximize outdoor space and connection to the landscape, columns were absent on the deck. A steel beam system supports the cantilevered roof and allows the windows to extend to the ceiling, blurring the delineations between indoor and outdoor spaces. Large sliding doors and indoor/outdoor kitchen counters create a unique relationship between the deck and indoor common areas.

Giant Pixel is a small company with big aspirations. For its first headquarters, the gaming software developer bought a turn-of-the-century former printing press near San Francisco’s Mint Plaza, an area known for creative redevelopment and modernity drawn from vintage architecture. The design challenge was to fit a variety of distinct work areas into three floors with small footprints—and to do so with both beauty and economy.
At the entrance to the office, a blackened steel canopy perforated with a computer code pattern creates a striking visual matrix and divides the front into reception and waiting areas. The concrete reception desk has a sweeping sculptural form offset by the wit of a chandelier composed of desk lamps.
Upstairs, a suspended fireplace and chimney create a focal point for the workstations, conference room, private break cabanas, and coffee counter at the back. Work tables foster collaboration, while the cabanas are enclosed in swathes of gray felt hung over rods for acoustic separation.
In the basement, a lounge and bar provide a cozy in-house retreat for Giant Pixel’s 20+ employees and visitors. The repository of the company’s collection of fine whiskies (and the founders’ selection of Star Wars video games), the lounge incorporates high-end finishes, furniture, and lighting.

 Occupying the top three floors of the west tower of a famous London landmark, St Pancras Penthouse Apartment by TG Studio is a charming eclectic home. Initially discovered by Freshome on Interiorzine, the project consisted of a massive redesign and as expected, the creative team faced quite a few challenges: “As the property is of highest public interest and the interiors listed by English Heritage as very significant, the floor plan had to be broadly maintained but all staircases, balustrading and partitioning, where possible, were replaced.” The bathrooms, floor finishes, wardrobes and the kitchen were removed and a new staircase was added.

 
 The middle floor is probably the focal point of the apartment, measuring approximately 800 square feet and accommodating a seating area and a pool table. Located in the two gothic towers of the building, the en suite bathrooms offer a triple ceiling height and extensive views of the surrounding area. Colorful and alive, St Pancras Penthouse is a great example of turning a place modern, while keeping its personality alive.
